The MFCS sales team and Maynard are constantly striving to grow their business and increase the market share on their high temperature product line. In the fall of 2015, for one particular large diesel engine customer, persistence finally met opportunity. The customer in question was encountering issues fastening a turbo in a high temperature and vibration application in which the joint was failing during testing. The Maynard engineering staff traveled to the customers headquarters and presented the MacLean-Fogg Lockthread technology to the engineering team. After the meeting, the customer issued Maynard a purchase order for a series of testing to compare lockthread to other alternative locking fasteners.

The first test was a transverse vibration test, also known as Junkers. On the Junkers test, MacLean-Fogg’s lockthread outperformed all of the competitors’ locking fasteners. This data persuaded the customer to utilize lockthread parts onto several engines for dyno testing. Maynard provided samples of two current production parts for this testing. Maynard also ran hot vibration testing in parallel with the dyno testing. At the Maynard lab, engineers were able to replicate the dyno failures that the customer experienced with base line fasteners and other locking options. After trying several solutions to no avail, lockthread was the only locking feature to survive the dyno testing at the customer’s site and hot-vibe testing at Maynard.

As a result of successful tests, the customer released two parts for production on its new diesel engine with “MacLean-Fogg Lockthread” noted on the drawing. Maynard continues its history of working with customers’ engineers to provide solutions to their problems and provide Maynard with further growth opportunities.
